“ Many centuries ago, according
to the legend, the Serpent came out of the sea and grew wings. ...It had started its journey to the stars, and particularly
the Morning Star, when suddenly it was overcome by the waters of the great Flood, which waters inundated the earth. On this
occasion the Plumed Serpent did not drown, but it lost its wings.Had these wings not been destroyed, the Serpent would surely have reached the Morning
Star, and there in the spacious palace there would have been a meeting. The joy of that encounter could have been expressed
only in tears, forming the fruit of eternity.”
The Serpent of Paradise – Miguel
Serrano.
The tale
of Sleeping Beauty may well be based upon the idea of the awakening of the Serpent Kundalini. We have the idea of
the fair maiden who is pricked on a Spinning Wheel (chakra) and falls asleep. She cannot be awakened until
such time as the Prince (male) kisses her (sexual act). The tale of Sleeping Beauty stems from the far more ancient myth of Sigurd awakening the Valkyrie, Sigdrifa.
In this tale Sigdrifa sleeps an eternal sleep protected by a Ring of Fire (chakra), and is awakened by Sigurd who
is the hero who can walk through the flames unscathed and awaken her with a kiss – or more in this case since the offspring
of their love is Aslog. The later tale with the “kiss” was for a Judaeo-Christian audience. From Sigdrifa Sigurd learns runic knowledge and spells.
Just as Woden obtains wisdom from the Sacred Mead made of Kvasir’s Blood, Sigurd learns runic wisdom from his Valkyrie,
Sigdrifa – from her awakening. The role of the awakener can only be that of The Hero.
According to Julius Evola the name Shakti stems
from shak – “to be able to”/”to have the strength to act” and thus denotes power.
The key to awakening this power was in the hands of The Hero. This was the Wera or Solar Warrior. This would
also seem to be the key to the creation of the Nietzschean Superman. Taking the left-hand path in the Way of Tantra the adept
becomes “the ultimate sovereign” (cakravartin = “world-ruler”). We should here note the similarity
between the meaning of cakracartin – “world ruler” and the term used of Hengest in Beowulf
– werold raedan. The latter means exactly the same. Since Shiva is associated with the Third Eye Chakra then it is likely that the Eye of Shiva refers to the Third Eye.
We can thus equate the Eye of Woden, hidden in Mimir’s Well (Memory) with the same area. Remember that Woden sacrifices
the eye to Mimir for a draught of knowledge.
It is also important to note that the chakra associated with Kundalini (Muladhara Chakra) has a mantra LAM
associated with it, plus another mantra within the Trikona – KRIM. Here, as we have noted before, the galdor “K”
is used. This has to be significant, and links to the associations made with the Kan-Rune. It must be pointed out that the Root Chakra is below the Sacred Centre
and the two are not the same. The Root Chakra is the lowest of the Seven Chakras. Kundalini is said to be a force residing in the Muladhara Chakra
in Tantric Lore; this translates as Mula (root) and adhara (support) – root support. This
is where the Coiled Fire-Snake known as Kundalini sleeps. It must be understood that these chakras are not a physical
thing but exist on a psychic level. This centre is said to be associated with the Earth. It is important to note that the symbol used for this chakra is a coiled
serpent, having three and a half coils. This symbolises a form of serpentine coiling or a “screw” which acts between
dense and subtle matter. This coiling is around the linga which is the Phallus of Shiva. The Shiva-Force enters the
body from above and it seems that some of the energies enter from below which suggests the
Goddess Shakti.
The
symbol of Kundalini is also a downward-pointing triangle within a square – the latter being symbolic of Earth. There
seems to be some subtle link between Kundalini and the theories on ley-lines, aquastats and water-divining outlined in Guy
Underwood’s Patterns of the Past. The ideas he outlined concerned “blind springs” which can be
dowsed and which can be found at most ancient sacred sites. These appear to be spiral energy-points which parallel the symbol
of Kundalini – the Coiled Serpent. It is interesting to note that Guy Underwood discovered that “blind springs” can turn either clockwise
or anti-clockwise, but that the primary spirals here in England were almost all anti-clockwise. Her we should
note that plants such as runner-beans always climb anti-clockwise. This may well be due to the earth’s
magnetism, the anti-clockwise movement being a phenomenon of the northern hemisphere. This also backs up the idea that the
anti-clockwise swastika (Coiled Force) is the correct one to use for our area of
the earth – despite it now being considered “evil”.
It would appear that Kundalini is not just a force in man but is also an Earth Force and a Cosmic Force –
so it works on at least 3 levels. These, of course, would all interact. Standing stones and stone circles could well be energy
points on the grid since they have been associated with “blind springs”. The ultimate aim of awakening the Kundalini is the union of Shakti (Female)
and Shiva (Male); in this we could see the union of Freya/Frigg and Woden as the Wodenic equivalent. This is part of the message
of The Hooded Man Prophecy which is based upon the balance of Light & Darkness. This union is
symbolized by the Trikona (inverted triangle) of Shakti, and the Linga (Phallus) of Shiva.
The works of Miguel Serrano are very obscure unless we realise
the meaning of Kundalini. For there are certain points that are important –
·
Unification with The
All (Brahman) is attained through the reunion of Shiva and Shakti in the Sahasrara (Crown Chakra).
·
Shiva and Shakti are eternal
aspects of the Brahman Self; but when the Brahman Self decides to gain experience in the physical realms it is Shakti who
must provide the necessary bodies, and to do this she has to accept exile for part of herself. This is the essence of the
teachings of Miguel Serrano, though he uses different terms. Thus Shakti enters the realm of Becoming. It
is the role of Shiva to ensure that his active partner (Shakti) retains through him unbroken contact with Being. It is to be noted that the three Chakras that have
the Trikona (Shakti) and Linga (Shiva) symbols are the Ajna (Third Eye), Anahata (Heart) and the Muladhara (Root-Kundalini).
These are the exact same points as the three “crucibles” mentioned in the Wodenic Tantra and the Sacred Mead
section.
Kundalini
is often thought of as an ascending energy from the Root Chakra upwards, yet its awakening is from a descending
energy from above. It is thus a Heavenly Force that descends in order to awaken the Earth
Force at the base. This means that the awakening starts by the descending power of Shiva in the head. We can translate
these powers into Woden and Freya, and this may well be where the myth of Freya losing Od derives – Freya must find
her Od first.
The
Seven Wheels -
Here we take a look at the Seven Chakras or Wheels which form part of Tantric Lore, and the concept of Kundalini. These
are linked to our own Northern Lore through the Sacred Tree and the Sutton Hoo Mask.
For the purpose of this work you should imagine Seven Wheels placed
along a vertical column which represents the Spinal Column in Man. At the bottom of this column is the Root Chakra which is
symbolised by a Coiled Serpent. This is Nidhogg at the base of the Sacred Tree. The three containers mentioned in connection with the Myth of Knit Mountain link to a Taoist Tradition of three ‘crucibles’
linked to the rising of Kundalini. There
are Seven Chakras but in the Myth of Knit Mountain, and the Taoist Tradition mentioned we have only three levels – Sacred
Centre, Solar Plexus and Third Eye. At the end of the ritual a nectar flows downwards and envelopes the body. This is the
Sacred Mead.
Here we have the basis for an Initiation Rite in which the Kundalini Force is awakened and rises
upwards to open the Third Eye. If
we look once more at the link between the symbols of Iggdrasil and that of the Chakras and the Kundalini we may more easily
understand the role of these energy-points. At the base of the Sacred Tree is the Coiled Serpent, Nidhogg. It is here interesting to note that certain schools
of Kundalini regard it as being Fire by Friction. Is it thus a coincidence that the name Nid-hogg contains the idea
of Nyd – Friction-Fire? It would seem that there were two ways to produce fire-by-friction – the Fire-Bow and
the Fire-Wheel. The first is symbolised by the Need-Rune and the latter by the Fylfot-Swastika.
The Seven Worlds or Nine Worlds are located on this vertical column
or trunk. At the top is the Eagle between whose eyes is the Hawk – these symbolise the Winged Coiled Serpent (or Eagle)
with the opened Third Eye (Hawk). Since this is the same symbolism as the Myth of Knit Mountain then we can link the two as
being part of a form of Tantric Teaching. We can now turn to the symbolism on the Sutton Hood Helmet or Mask. Here a Serpent reaches across the crown
of the head, starting at the back of the neck. This would seem to hint that the Serpent-Force does not move vertically but
moves across the top of the head and then downwards into the Third Eye. The Serpent has a metal strip each side which we could equate with the twin ‘channels’ associated
with the movement of Kundalini. The end-piece of the Serpent is almost beak-like and is very similar to the one on the Eagle
which makes up the nose & eyebrows of the helmet-figure.
Here we need to look much closer into the Sutton Hoo Mask. The Eagle could be a Winged Serpent or Dragon since
the two heads are similar. The wings make up the eyebrows of the figure, and the two heads (Serpent & Eagle) meet at the
Third Eye. At the end of the wings are two Boars –the Solar Boar of Ing. The panels on the mask depict warriors and fighting and are obviously connected to Woden and his Warriors. There
are also the Dancing Warriors which suggest a Warrior-Dance as part of the Initiation Rites. Since we find that the
Guardian of the Sacred Mead has a name meaning ‘Joy of Battle-Frenzy’ (to put the two ideas together) then it
would seem that the awakening of the Kundalini was also associated with the Warrior. It is just a short step to linking the three vessels, the three ‘linga
chakras’ and the gaining of the Sacred Mead to the Warrior-Cults of Woden, and to Woden as the Shaman and God of Battle-Frenzy.
Studying the Eastern
system of the chakras is not easy for anyone unfamiliar with the terms used. This situation is compounded by the many books
out there that profess to be expert in the field, but whose authors have little idea of what they are talking about. I am
not an expert so I am not going to go into a deep study of the subject, rather put forward ideas which could help us to create
our own spiritual discipline. I
felt that the best way to look at the chakras is to use an English name for each rather than the Indian name. Where necessary
the Indian name will be looked at for guidance as to the nature of the chakra. It must be understood that we are talking about
psychic centres not physical centres. The physical area is given only as a guide.
There are three ‘linga chakras’ that contain the Phallus
of Shiva –
· The Root Chakra which contains a yellow square (Earth) within which is
a deep red Trikona (inverted triangle), and within which again is a golden phallus around which is coiled the Serpent Kundalini,
whose head blocks the aperture thus restricting the flow of Kundalini.
·
The Heart Chakra which
contains a six-pointed star within which is a Trikona ‘like a million flashes of lightning’, and a Shiva linga
‘like shining gold’. This is associated with Air.
·
The Third Eye Chakra between
the eyebrows has a Trikona within which is a linga ‘of the white lustre of lightning flashes’. As we have outlined before there could be a link
between these three chakras and the three containers for the Sacred Mead – Odroerer, Son, and Bodn. This is by no means
certain and needs further research.
The other chakras will now be looked at; they are in ascending order and must be seen in the context of being
part of a vertical column in order with the ones already mentioned.
·
The Sacral Chakra –
just above the Root Chakra and this is associated with Water.
·
The Solar Plexus Chakra
– this is associated with Fire and is placed around the solar plexus area. It has an inverted triangle
with projections that are often likened to swastikas since they symbolise rotation. This is associated with Agni and with
Rudra, hence the symbol of the Ram. Rudra is similar to Woden as the One-Eyed Hunter-God. This area shines like the Rising
Sun.
· The Throat Chakra – this one is associated with the Ether.
It is associated with the colour white.
· The Crown Chakra – this is on the top of the head and is usually
seen as the highest chakra, though Miguel Serrano sees the Black Sun as being above this.
The two lowest chakras – the Root Chakra and the Sacral Chakra
– seem to be associated with the dense physical world of matter. Most modern people would be stuck in this region. The
Solar Chakra is fiery and less stable and earthbound and is thus linked to more emotional responses. The Heart Chakra is associated
with air and the throat with ether, so we have a progression from an earthly state up to an etheric state, and then upwards
to the full opening of the Third Eye, and then the union of opposites at the Crown Chakra. This is a progressive upwards
evolution through the Chakra column. In our Old English lore there are Seven Worlds, an idea that could link with the Seven Chakras.
In some
traditions there are Nine Chakras, which could link to the Nine Worlds of Norse Mythology. If we were to undertake the task
of linking the lore of the chakras to our own Northern Tradition we would need to use Nine Chakras rather than seven since
we have no knowledge at all of the Seven Worlds of the English Tradition. The Spinal Column is seen as the physical representation of the vertical channels of the Chakra Column. It is important
to note that the Spinal Column is the trunk of the Sacred Tree in relation
to the physical body. We shall look at this in more detail.
Myth of Knit Mountain.
Tantric Rites of the East have always been
concerned with the awakening of the Goddess Kundalini who is said to reside at the base of the spine, just in front of the
anus. This is the subtle energy-snake – the Fire-Snake. A Tantric scholar, Philip Rawson, holds that there are three
“crucibles” placed along the spinal column, each of which is connected to the rising of Kundalini. The first of these is just below the navel –
here we can see the Sacred Centre spoken of in other works. The second is behind the Solar Plexus and the third behind and
between the eyes. These sound very much like Bodn, Son and Odroerir – the term ‘Son’ may be a play-on-words
for ‘Sun’ (Solar Plexus). Odroerir would most likely be the lowest of these since this is known to have been symbolised
by a furnace or cauldron. This would be the kettle Odroerir.
These “crucibles” are the chakras of Eastern
Lore, whose equivalent name would be hvel or hweol – meaning “wheel”. This itself hints
at a turning motion at these points.
Winning the Magic Mead of Inspiration –There are certain things that we need to consider in relation to this myth –
· Woden shape-shifts into a Serpent in order to enter
Knit Mountain. This has always been a phallic symbol and more important one of the most ancient
and powerful symbols for the cosmic creative sexual energy.
·
The term rati which
is the name of the auger used to bore into the mountain is related to a root meaning “rapture” and is related
to the sexual orgasm.
· The use of an auger is significant since the Old English nafegar
– from which we get the term “navel” – originally meant an auger literally a “nave-piercer”.
We are here connected to the idea of the Sacred Centre. Indeed, Gunnlod is said to have been sitting in the Golden
Seat when she pours Woden the mead.
· The term rati is also similar to rata
which is the root of words that mean “race” and “root”. This is associated with the Rad-Rune
or Rat-Rune. This may well be significant in that the gods are a mixture of giant blood – so Woden returns to his Primal
Roots.
· The Serpent is also symbolic of the Fire-Snake or Kundalini
which is at the base of the spine. This is the Serpent at the base of the Sacred Tree. This is linked to the Kan-Rune which
is the Rune of the Fire-Snake.
· The name “Gunnlod” is said to mean – “Joy
of Fighting” or “Joy of Frenzy” – so we are here looking at Woden having returned to his Primal
Roots as a God of Frenzy (Wod).
· After gaining the Sacred Mead Woden is forced to change into an Eagle
in order to escape Suttung. This symbol is found in the Sacred Tree once more where an Eagle sits in its branches
with a Hawk between its eyes. Since we find the symbol of the Serpent moving over the top of the Sutton Hoo
Helmet, and an Eagle (some say a Dragon but this makes no difference for it is a Winged Serpent) between the eyes. The Eagle
must thus represent the Third Eye.
· The Holy Mountain is the Central Mountain of the
Shaman. This is symbolic of the Sacred Centre, so we can link the rite here to the Sacred Centre.
·
The human body has 9 orifices,
7 of which are in the head – 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 nostrils, mouth, plus the penis/vagina and the anus. These are linked
to the Sacred Number Nine.
· The Serpent-Dragon known as NIdhogg may thus symbolise the Goddess Kundalini.
The name itself could be associated with the Nyd-Rune – Fire by Friction (a subtle hint at the sexual act). This is
something that needs developing, and will be part of another work.
The story
of the winning of the Magic Mead is told in Snorri Sturason’s Prose Edda. In order to understand this we need
to go back to the beginning of the tale of how the Magic Mead was formed. After the first war in the worlds the Aesir-Gods and Wanir-Gods made peace and mixed their own saliva together to
form a man called Kvasir, who symbolised Original Knowledge. Soon after this the powers started to fight each other for possession
of this knowledge, and Kvasir was slain by the dwarfs, Fjalar and Galar. These two killed him and let his blood flow into
two crocks (Son and Bodn) and a kettle (Odroerir). They then mixed the blood with honey and brewed the Sacred Mead of Knowledge.
These two dwarfs then slew a
giant and his wife. The giant’s son – Suttung – seized them and took them out to sea where he chained them
on a skerry. The dwarfs offered the Sacred Mead to Suttung in return for saving their lives. Suttung accepted, took the mead
and hid it in Knit Mountain where it was guarded by his daughter Gunnlod. I shall now outlines the story of how Woden obtained the Magic Mead from Gunnlod –
·
Woden slew nine giants
working in a field so that he could trick their employer, Baugi.
·
Woden stepped up to the
door of Baugi and knocked nine times. He offered to do the work of nine men in the field in exchange for a draught of the
Sacred Mead.
· Woden did the work but when Baugi asked Sutting to give Woden a draught
of the mead this was refused.
· Woden outlined a plan to trick the mead out of the hands of Gunlodd.
He produced an auger called Rati for Baugi to bore a hole into the mountain.
·
Baugi bored through the
mountain at the second attempt and Woden shape-shifted into a Serpent and slid through the hole.
·
Woden entered the mountain
and slept with Gunnlod for three nights, after which he drank all of the mead in Odroerir, Bodn, and Son.
·
Woden shape-shifted once
more, this time into an Eagle and escaped the wrath of Suttung. It is obvious from this account that it contains some form of Love-Magic rite akin to the Eastern Tantric Rites.
This is pointed out to us by Brian Bates in The Wisdom of the Wyrd. It is also clear that the figure of Kvasir and
his Original Knowledge stems from a fermented drink that can cause altered states of consciousness, for saliva (the gods mixed
their saliva to create Kvasir) is a fermenting agent. This is obviously what the Mead of Inspiration really was.
To win the Sacred Mead Woden made a
pledge and an oath to Gunlodd – and then had to break that oath. This was something of a taboo in the Germanic
world but it would seem that Woden deemed it necessary to do so for good reason, to gain the knowledge that he could only
steal by cunning. However, when
we look more closely at this Gunnlod helps him to escape the wrath of Suttung. It would seem that Woden gave his love to this
Giantess and then had to sacrifice being with her for gaining the mead and escaping with it – to give the Sacred Knowledge
to Gods and Men. This was an act of self-sacrifice. Indeed, we are told that this was specifically for the gain of men on
earth.
The Mead of Inspiration becomes known as Odroerir after the kettle it is put into. In Wodenic
terms this would be Wod-Roarer and connected to the Woda-Force.
Wodenic Tantra & The Sacred Mead -
In considering this myth we should remember
that there is a molten and fiery central core within the Earth which has to be reflected in the human make-up. This we see
as being symbolized by the ‘kettle’ Wod-Roarer (Odroerir). Since the term Wod or Od refers to
a Universal Force (Odic Force) then we can equate this with the term Vril or Vrihl. This we have done here. This fiery centre would correspond in physical terms
to a point around two inches below the navel which is the centre of the body. This we have termed the Sacred Centre and
in some cases the Calm Centre. This is not really a contradictory phrase since Woden is the Master of Wod and thus
controls and calms this chaotic, violent raging force.
The Kundalini Force (Vril Force) is symbolised in the East by a Coiled Serpent (three and a half coils).
Its awakening is symbolised by a Winged Coiled Serpent or an Eagle. It is necessary to know this in order to understand the
myth.(matter) whilst the masculine
is based at the heavenly point (spirit). The object of such a Tantric Rite is thus the conjoining of the body and spirit.
In the Old English
Rune-Poem under the Ken-Rune we are told that this dwells within the places where the æthlingas resides
– i.e. this is a force awakened only by the higher castes. We know that one of the meanings attributed to the Ken-Rune
is the Pine-Torch and this may be important in connecting the Kundalini and the Pineal Gland (Third Eye). Indeed,
the pine cone opens to spread its seeds, just as the Pineal Gland (Third Eye) opens to allow further insight and knowledge.
In the Ken-Rune we have the subtle
link between all of the ideas shown here –
· Knowledge – to ‘ken’.
·
The Fire-Snake or Dragon
(Dra-Kan = Coiling Fire).
· The Kon or Kingship.
·
Kin or Blood-Kinship –
roots in the past.
These
ideas all come together since we find that in ancient Europe the highest and most knowledgeable were called ‘Dragons’
or at least linked to the Dragon. We have a record of Sigurd the Wolsunga slaying the Dragon, eating its heart and drinking
its blood, and thus becoming a Dragon himself. In doing this he gains the Gold Hoard – the Ancient Solar Wisdom. But
in doing so he has to bear a curse on his line that will last until the End of Time.
It is perhaps interesting to note that in the quote at the start
of this text the “source of self and world” is said to lie “beyond the crown of the head”, for it
is usually stated that the highest chakra is on the crown of the head. Miguel Serrano (a tantric scholar)
seems to equate the point beyond the crown of the head to the Black Sun. If we equate the area of the Sacred Centre with Odroerir
(Wod-Roarer) then we can see that this centre is that of the roaring energy of the Kan-Fire. This energy is known as Wod
and its master is Woden (Wod-an means “Master of Wod”). Woden is the figure that tames
and uses this chaotic force.
That this knowledge was hidden within a Norse Myth, and that the Sutton Hoo Helmet holds a similar secret shows clearly
that Northern Initiates were well acquainted with these techniques always thought to be from the East. It was always thought
that acupuncture was invented by the Chinese some 2000 years ago – until Otzi the Iceman was found in the Alps –
his body tattoos matched many of the acupuncture points, and he is dated back to 5,500 years ago!It should always be remembered that the Giants were equated with the
East, and their name is rooted in GAN from which comes ‘knowledge’. In this case we can see that it was the work
of Woden to gain his knowledge from the Giants – who themselves stole it from the dwarfs. The wheel turns forever.
An interesting account
of the control of the Vril-Force by the Vril Society of pre-war Germany is given by Alec Maclellan in The Lost World of
Agharti. It has to be said that this account seems to have been taken from Robert Charroux (The Mysterious Unknown)
without credit. Sharroux gives no real evidence of the authenticity but the account itself is of interest, as we shall
see. According to the Charroux
account there are two methods of the control of Vril –
The Scientific Method –
· The particles of Proton A1 contained in lead are
isolated and captured in the photonic magnetism of Saturn, or in lava issuing from an active volcano. This was the way followed
by Wotan and some alchemists.
· Under the effect of the radiations the male sex glands activate all the
Korlos and confirm the ego in the physical centre of gravity. This would all seem to be a load of rubbish, but we could interpret it symbolically and come to some form of reasonable
ideas. The idea of ‘lava erupting from an active volcano’ suggests an orgasm, and the volcano may thus be symbolic
of this, as well as being the Sacred Mountain or even the Sacred Centre. This is further hinted at when we find the reference
to ‘male sex glands’ and the ego being confirmed in the ‘physical centre of gravity’. The ‘physical
centre’ would be the Sacred Centre. Saturn would be used here as a symbol of this used by the alchemists, but not being
familiar with this aspect I would not like to make comment.
The Mystic Way –
· This uses the sound vibrations of the ‘Letter
K’ – the Sign of Saturn.
· The colour violet.
·
An amethyst.
·
The Egyptian Ankh.
· Lead.
· Runes.
·
A mandala centred around
Shambhala.
· A symbolic regression in time.
·
The word of life for the
resurrection of Tutankamen.
All of this points to a ritual using certain sacred stones, colours, the galdor K, runes, etc. and this would also seem
to be very much like the ritual we could actually derive from the Myth of Knit Mountain. The term Vril was
first used by Lord Bulwer Lytton in The Coming Race and is most likely merely a word made up from virile.
